Casaburi’s article ‘A Study of Hogarth’s “Industry and Idleness”: Between Pure Simplicity and Moral Ambiguity’ is her first publication. In the article, she examines Hogarth’s series exploring his compositional and narrative choices that seem to trouble a strictly moralistic reading. Addressing the ambiguities and contradictions hidden in the work, she presents “Industry and Idleness” as a satirical portrayal of the industriousness myth, shaped by the Protestant work ethic and the emerging Industrial Revolution.

Francesca is an Italian Art History student at The University of Manchester. She is interested in Art Theory, Art Management and innovative approaches to Art Digitalisation. She is currently writing a dissertation on Kara Walker’s silhouettes in post-racial America.
